Handicaps and totals explained
E-sports handicaps work on maps, rounds or kills instead of goals. In a best-of-three, a favourite at -1.5 maps needs a clean 2-0; the underdog at +1.5 wins the bet if it takes one map. In CS2 a round handicap of -4.5 on a single map means the team must win by five rounds or more. Totals ask whether the combined count (kills, rounds or maps) goes over or under a line. Quarter lines do not exist here as often as in football, so most results are a clean win or loss.

- Recent form on the current patch – results from before a major patch can mislead.
- Roster changes – stand-ins and new signings shift a team's level quickly.
- Format – best-of-one matches are far less predictable than best-of-three or five.
- Map pool (CS2, Valorant) – a team's win rate on the picked map matters more than its overall ranking.
- Stage of the event – teams already qualified sometimes rotate players or experiment.
